Colchester Borough Council’s Digital Access Support Team is hosting a series of free Community & Digital Fayres, in partnership with Tendring District Council and the North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group.
The free events will offer training in a range of digital skills with a Google Digital Skills Trainer, as well as information and advice about wellbeing services. There will also be information and advice on employment, public services and independent living.
The events will offer free refreshments and a free raffle, and aim to provide a safe, positive and welcoming atmosphere.
The four events, which run from 10am to 3pm, are:
- Tuesday 28 May – Jaywick Sands Methodist Church
- Wednesday 29 May – Harwich Park Pavilion
- Thursday 30 May – Colchester Town Hall
- Friday 31 May – Greenstead Community Centre
Cllr Mark Cory, Leader of Colchester Borough Council, said: “Many processes are now digitised or online and we want to help minimise the number of people who are digitally excluded. Our Digital Access Support Team work out in the community to upskill people and give them the confidence they need to use digital and online services. These free events are a great example of our commitment to making digital access easier for everyone.”
Paul Price, Corporate Director of Tendring District Council, said: “Whilst many people are now digitally connected, there are still many in the community who are not digitally confident or struggle to gain access. It is vital that skills and confidence are enhanced right across our communities, so that no one is excluded from managing their lives on line and accessing the huge benefits which come from connecting with all digital services.
“These free events are a great opportunity for communities to learn what they can do online and develop their skills in a safe and supportive environment.”
Ed Garratt, Interim Accountable Officer for North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We are very pleased to support this fantastic initiative to improve digital access for people across Colchester and Tendring.
“Using technology to enhance wellbeing with a holistic approach is a blueprint for the health and care of the future”.
Sessions with the Google Digital Skills Trainer must be booked in advance. You can book by calling 01206 282452 or visiting www.colchester.gov.uk/digitalfayre, otherwise everyone is welcome to attend any day.
