New Cultural and Creative Events Fund: successful applicants announced

PUBLISHED: 3 March 2022

Successful applicants to Colchester Borough Council’s new Cultural and Creative Events Fund have been announced.

The new fund totalling £30,000 has been made available to support cultural and creative events and activity across the borough, between 1 May 2022 and 30 April 2023 – delivering on a priority in the new Cultural Strategy for Colchester to be published later this month.

Funded by CBC, and with a contribution from the NHS North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group made in recognition of the huge potential for creativity and culture to positively impact on health, wellbeing and community cohesion, the Fund has proved extremely popular, attracting over 30 applications from a variety of organisations, groups and individuals.

Demonstrating the high level of engagement with, and enthusiasm for, culture and the breadth of local talent and ideas, these covered the full spectrum of creative endeavour from music, performance, art and literature to cultural festivals celebrating Colchester’s diverse communities.

Following an assessment by a panel chaired by Cllr Darius Laws, the available funds will now be split between 28 projects – providing residents with the opportunity to come together and watch, try, and take part in a huge variety of different art forms and cultural experiences during 2022/23, in most cases for free.

Councillor Darius Laws, Portfolio Holder for Economy, Business and Heritage, said: “I am thrilled with the level of interest the new fund has generated. The successful projects will help showcase the incredible talent we have across the Borough, and I cannot wait to see them all come to fruition.”
