Colchester Borough Council’s commercial project management arm, Colchester Amphora Trading Ltd, has successfully completed work on the second Amphora Place office located off Sheepen Road.
The office has been let to industry-leading independent insurance brokers, Aston Lark, who have relocated and upsized their Colchester operations to the high-quality new build. This follows the successful completion of the first Amphora office in 2017 and subsequent lease to Birkett Long. The construction of both buildings has been carried out by local firm Rose Builders.
This second phase of the new office development is a significant project for the council, as well as forming part of Colchester Amphora Trading’s strategic focus on generating income to support the delivery of frontline Council services, reducing the need for local cuts.
Councillor Mark Cory, Leader of Colchester Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted that Amphora Place 2 is now complete and that Aston Lark has been able to fulfil its expansion plans, in addition to retaining jobs in the borough. The new office is another regeneration project that underlines the council's commitment to maintaining a vibrant and prosperous town centre, as part of the Better Colchester campaign.”
Councillor Nick Barlow, Portfolio Holder for Commercial Services, said: “This is a successful project carried out by Colchester Amphora Trading both on time and on budget, and one which perfectly embodies the council’s objective of maximising our assets to bring in increased income for the council, which will benefit Colchester tax payers for years to come.”
Peter Blanc, CEO at Aston Lark, added: “I was born in Wivenhoe and attended Prettygate Junior School and Colchester Royal Grammar School, so when looking for a location to cater for our company’s continued expansion, Colchester was the obvious choice!
“We are delighted with the look of the new office which we hope will be a catalyst for further growth in the region and we can’t wait to move in.”
