Castle Park Boating Lake to undergo repairs

PUBLISHED: 15 March 2019

Colchester Borough Council recently drained the boating lake in Castle Park for routine cleaning and maintenance. During this process it has been discovered that the inlet pipe is damaged and a camera survey has shown this is due to tree roots. The boating lake has not been refilled due to the damaged pipe.

The council is currently seeking estimates to repair the pipe, which will require it to be excavated and replaced, as well as investigating alternative options for emptying and refilling the boating lake in the future.

Cllr Tina Bourne, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities said “The boating lake is a popular attraction in our park and keeping it well maintained is essential.

“We are currently investigating ways to refill the boating lake whilst we work to get the pipe fixed. It will be refilled within the next few weeks.

“Luckily with the River Colne so nearby the lake’s wildlife won’t have far to go for alternative water”.
