Get set for the ultimate Outdoor Film and Street Food Festival in Castle Park

PUBLISHED: 12 July 2022

Colchester Events and Pop-Up Pictures have once again joined forces to host the Colchester Outdoor Film and Street Food Festival in Castle Park, this summer.

Over four days, from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 July, moviegoers can relax in the great outdoors with family and friends while watching their favourite movies on the big screen. There are 12 movies to choose from, including Jumanji, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Back to the Future, American Werewolf in London, Bridesmaids, The Greatest Showman and Grease.

Danny Banthorpe of Pop-Up Pictures said: “We are really excited to deliver this new festival and street food concept with lots of diverse movies alongside a fantastic global street food market. We've had some fun picking out some movie classics and this year are offering two movies for the price of one! We've also cherry picked some amazing local street food traders who’ll delight audiences with a tasty array of exciting flavours from around the world. Come and join us to ‘tuk tuk’ in!”

Eating Street, a free to enter, pop-up street food market will be open throughout the festival to filmgoers and the public. Look out for wood fired pizzas from The Mob Pizza & Bar, Thai food with Mama Cook Truck, chip buckets from Hey Spud, burgers from Stacked, and Didi’s Trinidadian Cuisine, plus Obscene Waffles and Ravenous Fudge.

Colchester Events has hosted summer screenings since 2014 while Pop-Up Pictures has hosted events in the borough for the past five years. In 2020, with the challenges of Covid-19, both companies decided to work in partnership to better ensure a safe and popular event.

Cllr Adam Fox Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Local Economy & Transformation said: “With the glorious summer weather set to continue into July, this will be a fantastic event for people to gather with family and friends in the heart of our city to enjoy great films and good food together.

“It’s encouraging to see the leisure sector working together in Colchester to bring so much variety of the city’s summer entertainment programme which is packed with world class music, comedy and festivals, to attract people from across the borough and the wider region.”

The event takes place in Lower Castle Park. Prices start at £9.50 per adult and a child up to 15 years old can enter free with a paying adult. Look out for 2 for 1 offers available each day.

Opening times: Thursday, 5-9.30pm; Friday, 11.30pm-9.30pm, Saturday, 11.30am-9.30pm; Sunday, 11.30am-3.30pm.
