Colchester Cultural Strategy: public consultation opens

PUBLISHED: 13 July 2021

Colchester Borough Council is inviting the public to have their say on the development of a new Cultural Strategy for the Borough.

Colchester Borough Council (CBC) is working with partners to develop a new Cultural Strategy for the borough which will be in place until 2030.

When complete the strategy will encompass all the borough’s diverse cultural landscape and will include the arts, creative industries, heritage and the public realm and will also link to green spaces, tourism and events.

CBC is aiming to consult with individuals, communities and organisations across the Borough to gather feedback and ideas to help shape the cultural offer over the next decade. Colchester already has an incredibly vibrant and thriving cultural offering and the aim of the strategy is to grow and develop this sector, increase participation and ensure it is accessible for all the borough’s residents.

Councillor Darius Laws, Portfolio Holder for Economy, Business and Heritage for Colchester Borough Council said: “Colchester already has a renowned and established arts and cultural community. Our aim is to support this already thriving sector to grow and develop new talent for the future. It’s vital that we consult with our residents to take into consideration their views and ideas by working together as one community. Colchester is packed with culture, and I'm delighted to support its continued growth and enhancement.”

Taking part in the consultation will only take a few moments of your time. What does culture mean to you? What do you enjoy? It could be music, art, the cinema, visiting museums or something else!
