From walks and trails, to free museums, concerts and plays, there’s plenty to do for everyone across our Beautiful Borough. To help you get started head to www.visitcolchester.com/colchesterforfree  for our Top 10 suggestions of FREE places to visit.

NEW for 2019 – Visit Colchester will be launching the Family Heritage Treasure Trail on the 21st of July, just in time for the holidays!  The trail gives young (and not so young) history buffs the chance to explore Colchester’s heritage by completing a walking trail around some of the town’s key historic sites with some fun detective work thrown in - the answers will be found at each stopping point.

Families completing the trail can pop in to the VIC at the end, and all children who have finished the trail and answered the questions will receive a small prize! A truly fun family friendly event.

Pick up your copy of the trail from the Visitor Information Centre located in Castle Park or download it for free at www.visitcolchester.com/colchesterforfree

Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council said, “Colchester For Free is a great resource for people to take advantage of this summer. Whether you prefer to dial down the pace a little by packing a picnic and enjoying one of our fantastic green open spaces or heading off following our trail we wish our residents and visitors a fun packed summer!”

Ensure you don't miss out on any last-minute opportunities by following @VisitColchester on social media and remember to share and recommend your ideas using the hashtag #ColchesterForFree.

#ColchesterForFree also supports the aims of Livewell Colchester, a campaign which helps to support residents to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. To find out more about the Livewell campaign in Essex, please visit www.livewellcampaign.co.uk
