Unwrap Colchester Council’s future plans and vision at special ‘live billboard’ event

PUBLISHED: 1 December 2021

Residents are being given a festive-themed way of finding out more about Colchester Borough Council’s plans and vision for the future of the borough, at a special event next week.

Colchester Unwrapped, being held outside of the Mercury Theatre on Wednesday 1 December, is a unique opportunity for people to not only find out more about the council’s plans – but also ask the Leader of the council, Cllr Paul Dundas, about them.

From 10:30am to 11:30am, Councillor Dundas will host a Q&A session where anyone can ask him any question regarding the authority’s investment in new homes, leisure facilities, business support, community facilities and environmental projects.

The Colchester Unwrapped event will have a Christmas theme to it, and everyone is welcome to come along and ask a question or listen in to the conversations and share the event on social media.

The initiative marks the beginning of the Updating Colchester campaign – an online and live event campaign aiming to raise awareness of the wide range of capital works projects that are in the pipeline for the town. A variety of projects will be shared with the public via social media and bespoke live events between December 2021 and February 2022.

Councillor Dundas said: “We have many vibrant and innovative projects either already being developed or currently in the pipeline that will not only help enhance the look and feel of the borough but also the lives of our residents, and it’s important we tell people about them.

“I’m excited to be hosting this special interactive event, which will give everyone the opportunity to find out more about the projects we are undertaking, from the redevelopment of the Elfreda House site and provision of community facilities in Stanway, to the fantastic Colchester Sports Park at Northern Gateway.

“It’s a great opportunity for residents to talk to me directly on the plans and vision for the borough. This is an exciting time for Colchester, and this is a fantastic opportunity for people not just to unwrap them and I’m looking forward to seeing what questions they ask me on the plans.”

A video of the Q&A highlights will be available after the event, and more information about the council’s capital works projects will also be available on the council’s website colchester.gov.uk/updating-colchester.
