Vineyard Street lift reopens after refurbishment

Major work to refurbish the Vineyard Street lift, which links Vineyard Street car park and the city centre, has been completed and the lift is now operating once again.

Work began in early February to improve the availability and reliability of the lift by replacing and overhauling several major mechanical components.

Cllr Martin Goss, Colchester City Council Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Waste, said: This lift was in real need of some attention. Years of wear and tear had taken its toll and it frequently needed repairing.

“Although visitors won’t notice a difference to how the lift looks on the outside, the £81,000 we’ve invested to replace several major components will make the lift much more reliable in the future.”

The work follows improvements made to interior panelling in 2019 and major refurbishment in 2012.
