Leisure World Colchester is continuing to run a programme of fun, relaxed activities and sports for people living with dementia and their carers.
Following the iBCF-funded (Improved & Better Care Fund)(1) programme of activities that ran from February 2018 to April 2019, which 675 people attended, Leisure World will continue to offer supported dementia activity sessions from £4 per person and free entrance for their carers.
The programme enables participants to enjoy activities they love or try something new – all in a safe and supportive environment.
Wednesdays start off with badminton and table tennis sessions from 1-3pm, with swimming also available under the guidance of qualified teachers in a dedicated lane, in the Fitness Pool from 2.30-3.30pm. Then on selected Wednesdays, a Coffee Afternoon with Cake from 1-3pm, on 17 and 24 July, and Songs and Memories from 1-2pm on 26 June and 10 July.
Cllr Theresa Higgins, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Commercial Services, said: “As a dementia-friendly organisation, we believe that a huge difference can be made to the lives of all those living with dementia if people around them understand the difficulties they face.
“I’m really pleased that so many people have enjoyed the funded dementia activities over the last year and I hope that they continue to come to Leisure World to enjoy the sessions.”
There is no need to book, just turn up and take part. Songs & Memories, Coffee Afternoon with Cake, badminton and table tennis are £4 per session; swimming is £7.80 per session. The sessions run during term-time only.
Community360 can provide transport to Leisure World for these activities by accessing bursary funding dedicated to participants in the sessions. Please call 01206 216600 to obtain further information and to book your transport.
