Adorn: Jewellery, The Human Story launch events

Colchester Castle’s exciting new exhibition, Adorn: Jewellery, The Human Story opens on 27 July. Exploring the glitz and glamour of personal adornment, from the Bronze age through to the 21st Century, Pompeii to Colchester. Featuring loans from the British Museum and other major collections, the exhibition runs until 16 February 2020.

To celebrate the opening, Colchester Museums are hosting two launch events:

Bling It On: Friday 26 July, 7.30-10.30pm

Adorn yourselves in all your finery for Colchester Castle’s grand opening of Adorn: Jewellery, The Human Story. Be one of the first to preview the exhibition by attending the Bling It On launch party! Immerse yourself in the exhibitions amazing tales and enjoy an exclusive drink designed and crafted by our friends from the Three Wise Monkeys at the bar. Tickets on sale now at £15. Children’s Launch Party – Razzle Dazzle With Adorn!: Friday 2 August, 2-4pm

Get the children dressed up for a launch party with style! With party games, face painting and refreshments explore Adorn: Jewellery, The Human Story with your little ones. If you like, share some of your favourite stories about what you wear and why. Fancy dress is encouraged! Tickets now on sale at £5 after Castle admission. Call 01206 282941 to book.

Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: We are excited to bring Adorn to the people of Colchester. The exhibition will showcase items of personal adornment, some of which are over 5,000 years old, spanning from the Bronze age right up to the present day.

“I am personally looking forward to seeing items of jewellery from Pompeii kindly on loan to us from the British Museum. I would urge anyone to grab a ticket for one of the launch events and see the exhibition in style!
