New Coalition Administration at Colchester City Council

A new Administration has been appointed to lead Colchester City Council after being voted in at the Annual Council Meeting today (Wednesday 21 May 2025).

Colchester Liberal Democrats and the Labour Groups have agreed to form a Colchester City Council coalition administration, for 2025/26.

Liberal Democrat Cllr David King, who will remain as Leader of the Council, thanked outgoing Cllrs Smith, Jay and Sommers for their dedicated service as members of the previous Liberal Democrat minority Cabinet. And welcomed the new and formal coalition arrangements with Labour, which will see a new eight strong ruling joint Cabinet for the coming year.

Cabinet appointments are as follows:
  • Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Strategy Cllr David King
  • Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing: Cllr Julie Young
  • Cabinet Member for Resources, and Assets: Cllr Mark Cory leading on
  • Cabinet Member for Culture Heritage and Environment: Cllr Lee Scordis
  • Cabinet Member for Waste, Neighbourhoods and Leisure: Cllr Martin Goss
  • Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Transformation: Cllr Chris Pearson
  • Cabinet Member for Planning and Sustainable Development: Cllr Andrea Luxford-Vaughan
  • Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Protection: Cllr Jocelyn Law
Cllr David King, Leader of Colchester City Council, said: “We will work as before, together and collaboratively with other parties, to deliver help and support to those most in need across Colchester. Whilst also delivering ambitious plans for investment in the city, including in our city centre and affordable housing.”
 
Cllr Young, as the new Deputy Leader of the City Council, added: “Addressing homelessness and helping those most in need is a shared priority, and I am determined we will make a difference to the lives of our residents and communities, helping those who help others and especially the most vulnerable.”
