The Mayor of Colchester, Cllr John Jowers, will lead the annual St. George’s Day service at St. Botolph’s Church on St. Botolph’s Church Walk, on Sunday, 21 April 2024.
The traditional civic event takes place with a 10.30 am service conducted by Reverend Chris Smith, who will be joined by the Bishop of Colchester Right Reverend Roger Morris and the mayor’s Chaplain Reverend Dr. Amanda Elmes.
The Mayor and the Mayoress, Mrs Sue Jowers, will be joined by the Deputy Lieutenant of Essex Mr Simon Hall, High Sheriff of Essex David Hurst, Garrison Commander Lt Col Ed Rankin and other representatives of the Army, members and representatives of Colchester City Council, and other dignitaries.
An invitation to attend the service has also been extended to partners and guests of those taking part in the procession, together with representatives from the local community.
Later, the mayor will take the salute at the Town Hall as a parade of uniformed youth groups, including Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, marches through the town to Castle Park, where he will join them for a special service.
