Murder at the Castle! Brush up your detective skills for a murder mystery night like no other!

PUBLISHED: 7 December 2023

Join Colchester Museums as they prepare to host their very first Roman-themed murder mystery evening on the 9 March 2024.

As participants step through the doors of Colchester Castle and into their new role of detectives, they will be instantly transported back to 54 AD as they immerse themselves in the politically charged world of Ancient Rome.

The stage will be set... Emperor Claudius has found himself entangled in a web of intrigue: his third wife's sudden divorce agreement, a suspiciously close relationship between his mistress and her son, a badly behaving-chief eunuch, and a Senate determined to foil his plans. Thus begins an evening of murderous comedy, politics, plumbing, and peanuts!

This rather special murder mystery night offers a unique opportunity for guests to immerse themselves in the world of Ancient Rome and experience the thrill of being a detective in a politically turbulent era.
Throughout the evening, participants will interact with professional actors who will bring the characters to life and provide essential clues, ensuring an engaging and exciting experience for all attendees.

Councillor Cllr Michelle Burrows, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Heritage, said: “This night promises to be an unforgettable and enchanting event, providing a unique blend of history, mystery, and immersive entertainment. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a fan of murder mystery, or simply looking for a thrilling and engaging night out, this event is not to be missed.”

Tickets are limited, and early booking is highly recommended to secure your place. To book simply call Colchester Castle on 01206 282939 or visit the website for further details. £35 per person. www.colchester.cimuseums.org.uk/events
