Colchester council secures new sponsorship deal for Castle Park bandstand

Musicians can once again use the Castle Park bandstand free of charge, thanks to a new sponsorship deal with the Café in the Park.

The bandstand, which has been an iconic feature of the park for more than 125 years, was previously charged at £47.92 plus VAT per hour for its use. However, the sponsorship deal will cover the costs of performances, allowing musicians to use the bandstand for free.

“We’re delighted to have secured this sponsorship deal,” said Martin Goss, Colchester Council’s portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods & Waste. “It means that musicians can once again use this fantastic facility without having to pay a penny.”

The sponsorship deal is for one year, but the council is hopeful that it can be extended in the future.

“We’re grateful to the Café in the Park for their support,” added Cllr Goss. “This sponsorship deal will help to ensure that the bandstand continues to be a popular venue for musicians and performers and a thriving cultural hub.”

The bandstand was refurbished last year at a cost of more than £33,000. The refurbishment included repairs and refurbishment of the roof and new paint.

The bandstand is a popular venue for a variety of events, including concerts, plays, and dance performances. It is also a popular spot for weddings and other special occasions.
