Colchester City Council is hoping to sweep away the competition after it has been shortlisted as a finalist for a prestigious award focusing on street scene services.

This week the Association for Public Sector Excellence (APSE) announced Colchester is in the running for the Best Service: Team Street Cleaning and Streetscene Service (Public Realm) 2023.

This is a big boost to the Council and those on the front-line working tirelessly to keep the city streets clean, by stopping littering and fly-tipping before it happens, and respond quickly when it does, removing graffiti, emptying bins and much more.

Cllr Martin Goss, Colchester City Council Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Waste, said: The work of Colchester’s Neighbourhood team provides vital and valued services for the community and it’s fantastic that this work has been recognised and shortlisted in this prestigious public sector awards category.

“I know that our front-line staff take an enormous amount of pride in their work and this news is a well-deserved recognition of all the energy and commitment they demonstrate on a daily basis.

Speaking about the Awards, Mo Baines, APSE Chief Executive, said, "Across local government we have an army of unsung heroes going above and beyond to deliver for their local communities. Innovation and dedication is key to their success. The APSE Service Awards uniquely recognise the profound contribution of local council frontline services to local communities and local people. These awards celebrate those contributions to the delivery of excellence on the frontline and striving to achieve continuous improvement in public service delivery”.

The APSE awards are designed to recognise excellence in local government frontline services across the UK and are open to all local authorities and their public sector partners.

The winners will be announced on Thursday 14 September 2023.
