Come together to celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation with a community picnic in Upper Castle Park, Colchester.

Organised by Colchester City Council and Colchester Market, this free community event will take place between10am and 4pm on Saturday 6 May.

Bring a picnic and your friends, family and neighbours to enjoy some great food. There will be street food stalls from Colchester Market around the Castle Bailey including Essex Bakery, Brownbread, Manna Grill Street Food and Kezmet Catering, and climb aboard the Wilkin & Sons Vintage 1967 Routemaster double decker bus for scrumptious cream teas and cocktails. You will also be able to visit a range of community stalls on Hollytrees Lawn and Colchester Pipes and Drums band will be playing on the bandstand from 1pm.

At around 11:30am the Garrison Command will deliver a 21-gun salute to mark the Coronation of King Charles III in the Lower Castle Park, to be fired at approximately noon as the King is crowned.

The event is free and there is no need to register or book a ticket, simply turn up between midday and 4pm with your picnic and enjoy the atmosphere!

Cllr David King, Leader of Colchester City Council, said: “We know how much everyone enjoyed the community Picnic in the Park for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, so we thought this was the perfect way to mark the Coronation of King Charles III. It will be a wonderful way to meet up with friends and celebrate the Coronation as a community and continue our Year of Celebration activity to mark our new city status.”
