Policy Panel invites you to have your say on the future of Colchester

PUBLISHED: 23 November 2022

Residents are being invited to share their views on the council’s plans for the future, at a Policy Panel meeting on 30 November.

The council is keen to hear ideas about the future of our city, as it begins work on the priorities for Colchester for the next three years.

With soaring costs unlikely to be matched by increased funding or income, the council is looking at how best to deliver services in future whilst continuing to act on the things that matter most to local people and is asking the public to help.

Residents can speak to councillors directly and pitch their ideas when the Policy Panel meets at 6pm at Colchester Town Hall.

The Panel will be briefed on the initial results of a public consultation exercise, including an online survey that ran from the 5 – 30 October and several face-to-face focus groups and workshops.

Feedback from the survey, focus groups and Policy Panel meeting will be combined with the outcome of a recent Local Government Association peer review and ongoing cross-party discussion, which will help the council decide how best it will deliver key services, with others, for years to come.

Speaking ahead of the Policy Panel meeting, Cllr David King, the leader of Colchester Borough Council, said: “Like many residents struggling with a sharp rise in the cost of living, the council faces some very stark financial challenges over the coming months and years. But we are determined to remain ambitious and look to the future needs of our residents. Our consultation with them, fellow councillors and the Policy Panel will help us make the best decisions we can for our communities.”

Policy Panel Chair Cllr Lesley Scott-Boutell said: “Engagement with residents is essential, for this is their city and council. We welcome their views – hearing their voice in person at the Panel will help our understanding and help the council prioritise where limited funding is allocated.”
