Temporary change to St John’s Car Park pedestrian access

PUBLISHED: 31 August 2022

Pedestrian access to Colchester Borough Council’s St John’s Car Park will be temporarily reduced from 12 September until 28 October, whilst improvement works are carried out to the West stairwell.

Whilst the West stairwell is closed, pedestrians will still be able to enter and exit the car park using the stairs and lifts in the adjacent shopping centre from 9am until 6pm, or via the car park’s East stairwell from 5am until 7pm.

The car park will remain open and operate its usual opening hours and tariffs during this period and on-site signage will advise motorists of the temporary access changes.

Shoppers, visitors and workers in Colchester during this period can still take advantage of the great value parking available at St John’s Car Park, including all day parking Monday – Friday for £4 when making cashless payments, using MiPermit.

Councillor Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Waste, said: “These works will improve customers’ experience of St John’s Car Park and we’ve worked with our contractors and the North Essex Parking Partnership to minimise the disruption to the car park users.
“The only impact whilst the works take place, is that between 6-7pm, the only pedestrian access will be via the East stairwell, where customers can enjoy the vibrant tropical-themed murals which were painted by a local artist last year.”
