Come together to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a Community Picnic in Castle Park, Colchester.

Organised by Colchester Borough Council, the Anti Loo Roll Brigade and Community 360, the free community event will take place in Upper Castle Park between midday and 4pm on Thursday 2 June.

Bring a picnic and your friends, family and neighbours to enjoy some great food, live music from the British Army Band (Colchester) in the newly refurbished bandstand, activities and entertainment.

There will be street food stalls around the Castle Bailey, Wilkin & Sons of Tiptree bus (with free mini jam giveaway for those finding the hidden code word on the Street Tag Jubilee Trail) and children’s entertainment near the play area.

A selection of military vehicles will be on display, alongside locally based military units being on hand to talk about them and answer any questions.

There will be a range of stalls including Anti Loo Roll Brigade, Community 360, African families in the UK, the Business Improvement District, Essex Police and representation from the Mayors’ charities for the coming year. There will be a stand for ‘Community Cycle’ where residents can drop off unwanted bikes, which will be refurbished and donated to local community groups and families.

At 1.30pm, the Castle Park Jubilee planting and willow sculptures will be unveiled and at 2pm the Town Crier will read the proclamation from the Castle Park Bandstand.

The event is free and there is no need to register or book a ticket, simply turn up between midday and 4pm with your picnic and enjoy the atmosphere!

Deputy Mayor of Colchester, Cllr Tim Young, said: “I am delighted and honoured that the council is working with the Anti Loo Roll Brigade and Community 360 to ensure residents and visitors can enjoy this Community picnic for free.
