Calling all potential lifeguards

PUBLISHED: 21 April 2022

Have you ever thought about working as a lifeguard… but don’t have the qualifications? Leisure World Colchester is currently recruiting for lifeguards to work in its Leisure, Fitness and Teaching Pools and is offering new recruits the chance to have all their training costs funded up front.

Leisure World Colchester is holding a Lifeguard Recruitment Open Day, on Thursday 28 April, starting at 8am. Applicants must be aged 16+ and are asked to complete an application form before 5pm on 25 April.

On the day, candidates will be asked to complete a swimming test to show that they can: jump/dive into deep water; swim 50 metres (2 lengths of the Fitness Pool) in no more than 60 seconds; swim 100 metres (4 lengths of the Fitness Pool) continuously on their front and back; tread water for 30 seconds; surface dive to the floor of the pool (3.7m), and climb out of the pool unaided without ladders or steps. Those that pass the swimming test will then attend an interview on the same day.

Successful candidates will have the cost of a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification funded up front, giving them the opportunity to earn money and gain great experience in a full-time leisure career, right from their first day.

Cllr Sue Lissimore, Portfolio Holder for Resources and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “Becoming a lifeguard at Leisure World gives you the opportunity to gain fantastic work experience in the leisure sector, allows you to work in a fun environment, and provides an important service to your community. I would encourage all those that are interested to complete an application form and come along to the Recruitment Day.”

Leisure World is a fun and exciting place to work with excellent rates of pay, plus access to the Colchester Borough Council staff benefits scheme.
