Call for photos of past jubilees in Colchester

PUBLISHED: 12 April 2022

Residents are being encouraged to share photos of Queen's Jubilee street parties and celebrations, to form part of a display at Hollytrees Museum.

Colchester Borough Council and Colchester Museums would like to see photos of parties held locally for jubilees in 1977, 2002 and 2012.

The photos will be on display at Hollytrees Museum from the end of May and will sit alongside a selection of objects from the museum’s collection. The images will also be uploaded to the council’s website as part of an online photo gallery of jubilee-themed pictures from across the borough.

Deputy Mayor of Colchester, Councillor Tim Young, said: “There's lots happening this year for the Platinum Jubilee and this photographic appeal is a fun way to get involved and celebrate with your family and friends. It is a wonderful way to share your stories with younger generations and will really add to the celebrations in Colchester this year.”

Scanned or digital copies of photos should be emailed to mayor@colchester.gov.uk by 5pm on Friday 22 April.

A varied programme of Platinum Jubilee events has been planned across the borough, which will culminate in a national bank holiday weekend in June. These include flags in High Street, a Gun Salute in Castle Park, community picnic, lighting of Castle Park Beacon, virtual museum displays and street parties.
