Visit Colchester launch new group travel incentive scheme

PUBLISHED: 25 February 2022

Spring heralds the start of the UK’s tourism season and this year, to support the local visitor economy as it emerges from Covid, Visit Colchester will be encouraging more groups to head to the town with the launch of a new incentive package aimed at group travel organisers.

From the 1 March, group travel organisers registering with Visit Colchester will benefit from free reserved coach parking, complimentary refreshment vouchers and tickets to Colchester Castle Museum for drivers and guides as well as exclusive discounts for group visitors.

As one of East Anglia’s finest historic towns packed with over 2,000 years of history and heritage, there is so much for group visitors to discover, not just in the bustling and historic town centre, but further afield across the wider beautiful borough.

Suggested itineraries begin with a visit to Colchester. Groups can enjoy free time in the historic town centre with its huge choice of shops and eateries, exploring historic sites like St Botolph’s or the Roman Wall, relaxing in Castle Park or visiting attractions like the Castle Museum, Hollytrees and Firstsite.

Organised guided tours are also a wonderful way for groups to discover Colchester’s hidden treasures, or visitors can choose to go at their own pace armed with a map or walking trail courtesy of the Visitor Information Centre.

Further afield, groups can combine a visit to Colchester with nearby Dedham Vale nestled in the heart of Constable Country, or popular local group attractions like Layer Marney Tower, Beth Chatto Gardens and jam makers Wilkin and Sons with their famous tearoom and Museum in Tiptree.

Councillor Darius Laws, Portfolio Holder for Economy, Business and Heritage for Colchester Borough Council said: “Colchester is a melting pot of heritage, culture and with a bustling, modern urban centre, we would love to encourage more groups to head to Britain’s historic First City.

“For any group interested in the new incentive package we would ask them to register their interest at www.visitcolchester.com/groups or call 01206 282920 for more information.”
