Love Parks Week 2021

PUBLISHED: 20 July 2021

To celebrate Love Parks Week, which this year runs from 23 July to 1 August, Colchester Borough Council is calling on residents and visitors to help celebrate Colchester’s beautiful green spaces.

Between 23 July and 1 August, Keep Britain Tidy’s annual Love Parks Week campaign is calling on people to love, respect and protect our parks and open spaces throughout the summer and beyond.

Around 9 in 10 people surveyed by Natural England in May 2020 agreed that natural spaces are good for mental health and wellbeing.

Cllr Beverly Oxford, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “Over the last year, parks and green spaces have been a lifeline to many people throughout the pandemic and lockdowns. Parks are incredibly important places that give us space to play, relax and enjoy nature and the pandemic really highlighted how essential they are to our sense of wellbeing.

“We pay a lot of care and attention to maintaining our parks and making sure they’re a safe and welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy. I want to say a thank you to our Parks and Countryside team, and all the volunteers that support them.”

The council are hosting a series of fun activities with something to suit all ages, all set within our beautiful and welcoming parks. Booking is required for:
Parks are not just for enjoyment, they also provide habitats for many species of animals, birds and insects. Visitors can learn more about this by downloading our free Castle Park trails, High Woods Country Park Nature Trail app (available on Google Play), Wildlife Map or join a Wellness Walk.

Residents are also being encouraged to share some love for Colchester’s parks and green spaces by sharing their photos and comments on social media using the hash tags #LoveParks and #Colchester.
