Household Drop-off Service restarts

PUBLISHED: 21 June 2021

Colchester Borough Council’s seasonal Saturday Household Drop-Off Service will restart on 3 July 2021 and will run until 25 September.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Drop-Off Service was paused in 2020 to enable council collection crews to concentrate on picking up the extra recycling and rubbish households were producing.

This year, the drop-off service will be visiting 50 locations across the borough, picking up small, broken or unwanted household items that are either not recyclable or not collected as part of their kerbside collection. Garden waste can also be dropped off at these sessions and will be composted.

Items that will not be accepted as part of this service include items collected as part of kerbside collections (except for garden waste), large loads, fridges, freezers or other electrical goods, hazardous waste such as asbestos, batteries, liquids or gas bottles or Business Waste.

Residents are advised to visit the Council’s website and look up when and where their nearest drop-off service is being held.

Councillor Simon Crow, Colchester Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said: “I am pleased we can restart the Saturday drop-off service this year, and I’m grateful to everyone who makes the right choice to dispose of their rubbish legally.

“I would urge all residents to recycle or donate items where they can. For those items not collected at the kerbside, you can bring them to one of the 50 different locations across the borough that we will be visiting over the next five months; helping you dispose of these items locally and responsibly”.

Whilst queuing at these events, residents will be required to practice safe social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Further information about the service is available at www.colchester.gov.uk/recyling.
