Castle Park summer events

PUBLISHED: 21 May 2021

Castle Park has launched its exciting programme of summer activities for 2021.

The new programme, run by Colchester Borough Council, includes a series of talks and tours that will give visitors a rare insight into the history and wildlife of the Park, minibeast hunts, biodiversity surveying and more.

One of the highlights is the Bioblitz activity on Friday 4 June, 10am-3pm. A fantastic opportunity to explore the Park with new eyes and report on any wildlife you see as part of a community surveying day! The Park Ranger Team will be on hand to help identify and record your findings. This survey is a great way to record the biodiversity of the Park and help guide future management of the site. The RSPB and Essex Wildlife Trust will be on hand too. Bring your family and enjoy the fun – what will you see?

For any budding actors, the Summer Performance Workshop is not to be missed. A creative two-day activity for children aged 7 to 10 years and their family, to create a show on the history of the local area. A chance to put script/song writing and acting skills to the test. Spaces are limited so book early!

Cllr Martin Goss, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Waste, Environment and Transportation, said: “I’m really pleased to be launching this summer activity programme for Castle Park. It’s great that we are progressing to the next stage of restrictions easing and we are looking forward to a fun-filled summer of events in Castle Park and green spaces.”

The safety of visitors to the Park is essential, so all activities will operate within Covid guidelines, ensuring they are safe and secure for all to enjoy.

You can also explore Castle Park with the council’s free self-led history and wildlife trails.
