Visit Colchester Launches 2021 Visitor Guide

PUBLISHED: 14 April 2021

This summer, we are inviting everyone to head to the Beautiful Borough of Colchester to discover our unique heritage, family attractions, picturesque villages and of course quintessentially English countryside immortalized by famous artists like Constable.

Following the successful re-opening of Colchester’s Visitor Information Centre, Visit Colchester has today (14 April 2021) launched its new 2021 Visitor Guide as the next step in attracting new and returning visitors to the area, as Covid restrictions on travel are eased. The friendly team at the Visitor Information Centre has been working hard with local tourism businesses and attractions throughout lockdown to put together the 2021 Visitor Guide and is thrilled to be able to share it with you.

This official tourism guide is a comprehensive, 44-page booklet providing inspiration and information to tempt potential visitors to visit the borough, whether they are looking for a day trip or a longer break. Among the highlights to be discovered in its pages are Colchester Castle Museum, housed in Europe’s largest Norman Keep and, along with family favourite Colchester Zoo, among the top 20 attractions in the East of England, and Firstsite, one of Britain's premier contemporary art galleries and a glittering golden marvel of modern architecture.

Using beautiful imagery sourced from local photographers, this year’s edition highlights many ways tourists can safely enjoy Colchester’s Beautiful Borough in a continuing Covid world. We pay special attention to the town’s many green open spaces – from country parks to nature reserves – all great places to get a breath of fresh air and stretch your legs, and where you can practise social distancing safely.

For those keen to discover more of the borough’s all-important history, the new Walk Colchester pages will provide plenty of ideas. From a short stroll around the town centre and self-guided and blue badge guided walking tours, to walks further afield discovering The Essex Way and Stour Valley Path. Our NEW self-guided trails, focusing on Colchester’s medieval and Roman gates and walls tour and Siege of Colchester trails, really help bring Colchester’s rich heritage to life.

Together with the Discover Colchester Mini Guide, which includes a free town centre map, it’s everything you will need to plan a break to the historic borough.

Visitors can request a copy of the guides by contacting the Visitor Information team online, through social media or by telephone, or alternatively copies can be collected from the Visitor Information Centre.

Come and discover Colchester’s Beautiful Borough. Welcome Back.
