Colchester Borough Council and local strategic partners continue to work together as One Colchester, to help and support the most vulnerable people in Colchester as we enter the second COVID-19 national lockdown.

The lockdown, which came into force on Thursday 5 November, will last for four weeks, until Wednesday 2 December.

Central Government has not arranged a shielding programme for this lockdown, but is advising clinically extremely vulnerable people to stay at home as much as possible and seek help and support from friends and family or local councils and the voluntary sector if they need to. They have committed some additional funding to help, which the council hopes to receive soon for Colchester residents.

One Colchester partners are continuing to mobilise practical support for the most vulnerable residents in Colchester. This work includes delivery of food and medicine parcels direct to people’s doors, befriending phone calls to advise, inform and a provide a friendly voice, alongside fast-tracking volunteer applications and coordinating the roles in the community.

Pam Donnelly, Chair of the One Colchester Partnership, said: “We are wholeheartedly committed to ensuring our most vulnerable residents are supported and kept as safe during this new lockdown to help curb the spread of Covid-19.

“If you fall within this group you will be receiving an email, text or letter from the Government in the next few days giving you advice about what to do and how to register for services and support if you don’t have access to help from friends or family – such as arranging shopping deliveries or providing help with your social and wellbeing needs.

“If you register Community 360 will be in touch to check whether you have any support needs. If you don’t receive a letter but need support help is still available so do get in touch.”

If you need volunteer help or would like to volunteer, please email information@community360.org.uk or call 01206 505250

Pam Donnelly added: “I feel immense pride in being part of a community that rallies to these challenges with such energy and passion.”
