Where’s Wally hiding in Colchester Castle?!

PUBLISHED: 8 October 2020

Date issued: 8 October 2010

This October, Wally, possibly the world’s most beloved children’s book character with his red and white striped t-shirt and black glasses, will be travelling to Colchester Castle for some fun and games!

Head to the Castle from the 9-31 October with the family and join in the spooky search for him. Can you find Wally hiding amongst the museum’s collections? He could be anywhere, but your task is to find him! All we ask is you bring plenty of energy!

Visitors will be able to look out for special Halloween themed QR codes dotted around the Castle. Find and scan them to learn more about some of the real ghost stories linked to the Castle’s long and historic past, for added Halloween fun.

As it’s Halloween, feel free to dress up as a ghost, friendly pumpkin or even Wally himself! Throughout October half term, the Castle team will also be getting in the spooky spirit by dressing up as some of these historic ghosts. Don’t fear, though, they are all very friendly ghosts (well mostly!) and will be on hand to help find the iconic Wally’s with you, as well as helping you learn more about the Castle’s rich heritage.

Families will be able to take part in this fun-packed spookyness for the whole of October, and it will be included in the standard admission charges for the Castle.
This exciting Where’s Wally Spooky Museum search has been organised by Walker Books and Kids in Museums, to celebrate the release of the new book Where’s Wally? Spooky Spotlight Search

All children who complete Colchester Castle’s trail will receive a special “I Found Wally” bookmark, as well as the chance to enter the Where’s Wally? and Kids in Museums grand prize draw competition, to win an ArtFund Family Membership and a bundle of Where’s Wally? goodies.

There will also be plenty of pocket money priced treats in our gift shop, with a great selection of multi-buy offers.

Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council said: “Where’s Wally is an iconic character in children’s literature, and we are thrilled to be welcoming him to Colchester Castle. We would like to reassure parents that the trail will be in line with all Covid-19 safety restrictions, to ensure families can enjoy our Halloween fun safely. Give the friendly team a call on 01206 282939 today to book your time slot and, on behalf of Wally and the team, we can’t wait to see you all for some spooky fun!”

Alison Bowyer, Executive Director of Kids in Museums, added: “We’re thrilled to be working with Walker Books again this year. The last few months have been a challenging time for the heritage sector, so we are pleased to support even more museums to hold a fun and safe activity this October. We hope to encourage families back into heritage sites and help them enjoy all the rich experiences on offer.”

For families who are unable to visit please head to https://wally.walker.co.uk/ to take part in some fun online activities.
