Free Health Walks are back

Starting on Sunday 4 October at High Woods Country Park

Date issued: 25 September 2020

Colchester Borough Council is pleased to announce that its free Health Walks have started again, with the next one on Sunday 4 October at High Woods Country Park.

Over the past few months, our volunteer walk leaders have been working behind the scenes to ensure a safe return for the walks. Walks will be socially distanced and there will be a limit to the number of places, with walkers booking in advance.

Upcoming walks and times:
  • Sunday 4 October: Sunday Stroll, 11am
  • Friday 9 October: Friday Health Walk, 11am
  • Friday 18 October: Friday Health Walk, 11am
  • Sunday 23 October: Sunday Stroll, 11am

The Friday Health Walks are a short circular walk suitable for all abilities, including beginners, and takes between 20-30 minute. Sunday Strolls are longer at 1½ hours, covering more of the park. Both walks meet at 11am at the Visitor Centre at High Woods Country Park.

Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Environment and Transportation, said: “I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to resume our Health Walks at High Woods Country Park. Although it will feel different because of social distancing and the limit on numbers, it will be lovely to be able to see our regular walkers, and new people that want to join.

“We are working hard to support our residents to get out and about together in a safe and secure way. We hope more and more people will be encouraged to take part in these Health Walks, to enjoy our wonderful country park and enhance people’s health.”

Walkers must book in advance and must not attend if they or anyone in their household is displaying symptoms of Covid. To book a place please email the Countryside Park Ranger team at countryside@colchester.gov.uk
