Colchester’s Visitor Information Centre and shop will be welcoming back walk-up visitors once more, from Thursday 23 July, when the centre reopens to the public.Although the team have maintained contact with potential visitors and the tourism trade during lockdown via the Visit Colchester social media channels and www.visitcolchester.com, the public will now be able to access the team’s friendly, reliable advice in person.
However, things may look a little different when you visit. Don’t worry, this is simply to ensure the safety of both visitors and staff. Due to the size of the building the team will be limiting the number of people into the Visitor Centre to a maximum of four at a time, from an established bubble or household.
While you’re in the visitor centre, plenty of signage will help guide you and hand sanitiser stations will be available for use.
The Visitor Centre gift shop will be also be open for people wishing to purchase locally made gifts Colchester souvenirs. The team will be encouraging contactless payments wherever possible and screens have been installed around our till. The shop is a small area, so the team will be asking people to be patient and observe social distancing guidelines.
We understand that we are all living through unsettling times and adjusting to the new ‘normal’ is going to take a while to get used to. Colchester has a colourful history dating back over 2,000 years and today modern Colchester, is a great place to live and visit. The friendly team are excited to begin welcoming visitors back to Colchester and helping our Beautiful Borough continue to thrive.

At this time Hollytrees Museum, will continue to remain closed to the public. Work is ongoing to restart guided tours of the town and more information on this will follow.
