The first school holidays of the new decade are nearly upon us but don’t worry, Colchester Museums have plenty to keep the children occupied!

Colchester Castle will be gazing upwards and experiencing the wonders of the night sky, when it welcomes a pop-up planetarium to help children learn more about the planets and solar system. With expert commentary to guide them, make sure you bring the children along to learn more about the universe in this rather unique setting Tuesday 18 and Thursday 20 Feb). Booking is essential on 01206 282941.

The town’s Natural History Museum will also be hosting some special events, with live animal encounters (19 and 21 February). From fascinating fur and fangs, to predators and scaly creatures, find out more about the natural world at these special events. Booking is essential on 01206 282941.

Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council said: “As well as these exciting events, don’t forget that Colchester Castle, the Natural History Museum and Hollytrees Museum are a great place to head with the children over the half term week. Two of these museums are free of charge, helping to relieve what can be an expensive week for many families. All have interactive exhibits – perfect for young hands and minds!”
