People taking part in Veganuary are encouraged to head to Colchester Market this month and visit its vegan traders, all of whom are promoting their own vegan produce throughout January.

Colchester Market stall holders providing a range of vegan produce include Compleat Caterers, Chickpea Catering, Polka Dot Cake Co. and Vool Vegan Cool.

For those looking to spice up their Veganuary, the market will also be hosting the fourth annual Colchester Chilli Challenge on Saturday 25 January in Lion Walk, which will also be its first vegan-friendly challenge.

Starting at 11am and inviting competitors aged 18+, the Colchester Chilli Challenge sees those willing to take on the competition eat through a series of HOT dishes. The dishes, freshly prepared by Skippers Hot Chilli Sauce, Mex Appeal and assorted traders from Colchester Market, will put competitors through their paces in this fiery eating challenge.

Entry costs £10 per person and competitors can register on the day. Every competitor will receive an exclusive Colchester Chilli Challenge t-shirt by @cultzeros. Local Chilli condiment and sauce maker Skippers will provide the star-prize of a Chilli celebration hamper for the 2020 Colchester Chilli Champion.

Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Environment & Transportation, said: “Our market offers a great variety of food and produce, including an increasing number of stall holders providing vegan products, which will be of particular interest to those taking part in Veganuary.

“Throughout the year, we put on a variety of events to enhance the market, such as the Chilli Challenge and I hope to see lots of people heading to this popular annual event either to take part or watch all the fun.”
