Adorn: Jewellery, The Human Story has had its final participants added to the exhibition at Colchester Castle. This time, there will be eight people showcasing a range of different forms of adornment worn by Colchester residents.
Adorn is Colchester Museums’ first major exhibition since it reopened in 2014. It showcases the diverse ways people have decorated themselves for over 3,000 years. From Bronze Age gold to modern bling, over 300 objects are showcased in this stunning exhibition.
The Your Stories display attempts to contextualise the stories that the curators of the exhibition cannot possibly tell about the objects in the rest of the exhibition. With many of the objects, they can only speculate as to why and how people in the past would have owned and made this jewellery.
These final eight contributors have fascinating and unique stories to tell, each reflecting the objects in the rest of the exhibition. From pageant crowns to mourning jewellery, these final stories help contextualise the historic objects on display.
Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “Adorn is packed full of remarkable objects with the most incredible stories associated with them. I would urge anyone to head to view the exhibition before it closes on the 16 February.”
