Multi-award-winning Barefoot and Gilles has been appointed as lead architects on the new community facility in Stanway.

The Stanway facility is currently in the development stage and will be situated at the edge of a forthcoming country park, creating a new green space for residents. The community facility building will offer flexible hall space, suitable for hire by community groups. It is anticipated that the building will be completed in 2021.

Councillor Mike Lilley, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Communities, Wellbeing and Public Safety, said: “The development of the new community facility at Stanway is an exciting opportunity that will benefit the local community and help us to create a Better Colchester. I’m looking forward to working with Barefoot and Gilles, who bring a wealth of experience of delivering high quality schemes.

Roger Gilles, at Barefoot and Gilles, said: “We are delighted to have been selected to deliver this significant public amenity. I believe that, working with Colchester Borough Council, we shall be able to create a building which will become an exciting meeting place for everyone in Stanway’.
