Colchester Castle’s current exhibition Adorn: Jewellery, The Human Story has added six new participants to its ‘Our Stories’ display.
Adorn enables visitors to journey through time from Bronze age beginnings to today’s modern makers, by viewing the most incredible items of jewellery and personal adornment. Many items have never been on public display before and the exhibition features loans from many local museums, as well as items from the British Museum, including treasures from Pompeii.
The Our Stories display attempts to contextualise the stories that the curators of the exhibition cannot possibly tell about the objects in the rest of the exhibition. With many of the objects, they can only speculate as to why and how people in the past would have owned and made such jewellery.
The six new faces all have unique and individual stories behind how and why personal adornment is of great importance to them. From vegetable-people tattoos, to hair adornments – come and meet the new participants in the exhibition.
Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “I am thrilled that Janita, Jim, Melinda, Alice, Juki and Beverly have chosen to be part of this incredible exhibition. They can help us explain why people continue to adorn themselves today just like they did 3,000 years ago. These new faces will be on display until January, so make sure you head down to find out more about their stories and view the tremendous exhibition for yourselves – before it’s too late!”
