The Better Colchester campaign has contributed to a well-known event in Colchester, this year, to support the celebration of the borough’s diversity.

Now in its fourth year, the Festival of Rice & Spice, presented by the Colchester Minority Ethnic Forum, brings together world food, music, dancing and crafts into a one-day free-entry event.

The Better Colchester campaign has supported the event with a contribution of £1,500.

Poobie Naidoo, from the Colchester Minority Ethnic Forum, said: “The annual Festival of Rice and Spice was created to celebrate the diverse cultures of the people of Colchester. We aim through food, music, song and dance to bring people together and to promote community cohesion and greater understanding across cultures. Come and join us to enjoy this exciting event.”

Cllr Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “The Festival of Rice & Spice is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and sample different cultures from around the world. Our Better Colchester campaign is all about celebrating Colchester being even better, and community events such as this thoroughly support that.”

The Festival of Rice & Spice takes place on Saturday 14 September, from 12pm-5pm at Firstsite in Colchester.
