Check your electoral details

Colchester Borough Council is urging all residents to complete a Household Enquiry Form (HEF), which is being sent to every household in the country. Residents must complete a HEF to ensure they are registered to vote. The simplest way to respond is online at https://www.householdresponse.com.

If a resident’s household information has not changed, they can confirm by calling an automated telephone on 0800 197 9871 or by texting NOCHANGE to 80212. For any of these methods the security codes on the form will need to be quoted. A hard copy of the form can be returned, using the prepaid envelope, if there are changes or if a resident is unable to use the online service.

In addition to responding to the HEF, any new residents or those who have recently turned 16, will need to register to vote. The easiest way to register to vote is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

For those who need help responding to the form, assistance is on offer at free digital access points around the borough – details of which can be found at: www.colchester.gov.uk/digitalaccesssupport. Residents can also visit the Colchester Library and Community Hub for additional support.

Colchester Borough Council’s Electoral Registration Officer, Adrian Pritchard, said: “Many of us will be enjoying a well-earned summer break this time of year, but it’s important to check your mail and to confirm your household details.

It only takes five minutes to complete online at www.colchester.gov.uk/elections/canvass. Alternatively, you can confirm your household details by phone or text on 0800 197 9871.

By law, everyone must respond, even if all that’s needed is to confirm the details are correct. If any information has changed, you will need to update the Register to ensure you can still have your say at election time.”

Further information on the canvass is available online at www.colchester.gov.uk/elections/canvass.
