Visit Colchester is looking to share Colchester’s rich history and heritage with visiting sports fans and others, as new pitch-side advertising is installed at Colchester United’s JobServe Community Stadium.

By renewing its successful partnership with the team in time for the new football season, Visit Colchester will continue to support one of the Borough’s much-loved institutions and a key ambassador for the town.

The traditional pitch-side advertising board is just one element of a package which also includes Visit Colchester featuring in home game programmes and the recent SKY TV advert promoting Colchester playing on the big screen on match days.

To create a high visual impact, the advertising features Colchester Castle and St Botolph’s Priory – two of Colchester’s most prominent and important heritage attractions – in addition to an image of a charioteer which references Colchester as the home of the only Roman Circus so far found in Britain.

Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “This partnership with Colchester United will help us promote Colchester as a tourism destination to away supporters and visitors to events at the Jobserve Community Stadium. It’s a great way of welcoming these visitors to the Borough and encouraging them to extend their visit to Colchester or return soon.

“We want to encourage visitors to come and start their own Roman Invasion in Britain’s First City.”
