Castle Park has welcomed a new arrival this week, in the form of a floral baby dragon hatching from an egg, which now forms part of this year’s 3D floral display in the Park.

The baby dragon is a new addition to the dragon family which was officially unveiled last week to link with the temporary Game of Thrones sign for Essos (Essex) and the legend of the local Wormingford Dragon.

The Essos sign in Castle Park was launched in Castle Park in May to promote the release of the final season of Game of Thrones available for digital download.

This latest addition was created by Colchester Borough Council and idverde who are sponsoring the display will now nurture the baby dragon until it is ready to leave its nest in the autumn.

Councillor Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Environment and Transportation, said: “This year’s display has already been really popular with visitors to Castle Park and the baby dragon is a fantastic addition to the display and a must-see.”

idverde Operations Director, Martin Packman, said: “The team has been thrilled to see how popular the dragon display has been so far. We’re looking forward to introducing the newest member of the dragon family, which we hope will be equally well received.”
