During national Get Online Week, Colchester residents are being supported to improve their digital skills and knowledge enabling them to access online and digital services at their own convenience making life easier, cheaper and more fun.

In the town centre and across the borough, free community learning, skills sessions and courses are taking place 10am-3pm between Monday 15 and Friday 19 October 2018, with details available online on Colchester Borough Council’s (CBC) website at: www.colchester.gov.uk/digitalaccesssupport

The main event for Get Online Week is an Online Fair which will be taking place at the Moot Hall in Colchester Town Hall on 17 October. At this event, the Council’s Digital Access Support Team will be on hand to provide online support and advice to residents and they’ll be joined by over a dozen stall holders ranging from the Council’s own Online Team to the Job Centre.

The Fair is also a fantastic opportunity for residents to meet staff and find out about CBC and other local organisations online services such as how to register to vote online, set up an online accounts and use Colchester’s free Wi-Fi. The event also includes a free raffle where there will be some great prizes up for grabs.

During the series of Get Online Week events, anyone can drop in for help to set up their smartphone or tablet and for general advice to get online, with iPads and computers available for public use. You can even pop in for a chat about getting online and enjoy some free refreshments.

Once again the Council is working with its partners, who are all committed to helping customers access services and improve their basic digital skills. One of our banking partners, HSBC will also be participating if you need help with internet banking.

Colchester Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Customers, Councillor Beverley Oxford, said: “Get Online Week is a fantastic opportunity for residents of all abilities to come along to any of the events taking place and ask questions, learn something new or improve their online skills and knowledge so they can access and use a whole range of online services.

“I’m particularly looking forward to the Online Fair taking place at the Town Hall on 17 October and am really pleased that we have so many stall holders coming along who will be able to highlight and talk to residents about the services available to them.”
