Vineyard Street car park customers can now choose easy contactless, Apple Pay or chip card payment following the instalment of an updated pay and display machine.
Any parking stays in Vineyard Street can be paid for with a debit or credit card, either contactless if the symbol if displayed, or the card’s chip with no need to enter a pin number. Apple Pay using an enabled device is also available at this pay station.
Using contactless, chip or Apple Pay for transactions complements traditional coin payment, and cashless MiPermit online, text and phone options already available.
Cllr Mike Lilley, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Planning, Public Safety and Licencing, said: “As more of us continue to go cash-free for everyday transactions, rolling these options out at Vineyard Street car park will help more residents, visitors and workers in the town.”
Residents and visitors using any Council car park, borough-wide, can also choose cashless MiPermit parking by using online or phone payment instead of cash.
There’s no need to cut short a trip since you can enjoy the benefit of topping up your parking with the MiPermit App without going back to the car; the easy-to-use system can also give optional reminders of when parking time is running out and help guide users unfamiliar with Colchester back to where their car is parked.
