Colchester Borough Council has decided to postpone the next meeting of the Local Plan Committee, following the release yesterday (6 August) of a letter clarifying several recommendations made by the Local Plan inspector in his initial letter published in June.
The decision to reschedule next Monday’s meeting will give committee members more time to reflect on the implications of the Inspector’s latest letter and to obtain further advice before reconvening to consider the matter at a later date.
Colchester Council had recently written to the Inspector seeking further information on Option 1 – one of three potential choices identified as a way forward for joint parts of the Local Plan and the delivery of garden communities which are also shared with Braintree and Tendring District Councils.
Cllr Mark Cory, Leader of Colchester District Council, said: “I welcome the clarity the Inspector has been able to provide in his latest letter. It is perfectly reasonable and proper that we carefully consider this latest information, so that members have all the facts at their disposal to reach the right decision. We have to make sure we make the right decisions for our communities.”
Cllr Tim Young, Deputy Leader of the Council, added: “This is a matter of such importance that it simply cannot be rushed. It is absolutely the right thing to postpone Monday’s meeting for a brief period, so that members can take the necessary time to thoroughly digest what the Inspector has said, in light of his previous recommendation that further work is needed to deliver the Local Plan.”
