Due to the continuing severe high temperatures Colchester Borough Council has suspended its waste and recycling collections for the rest of today (Friday 27 July)
Temperatures across the borough approached 33 degrees centigrade today and the council took the decision for the safety of its collection crews.
With lower temperatures forecast for the weekend, the council will resume collections tomorrow in the areas that remained uncollected today – prioritising food and black bags/bins. If any food and black bags/bins remain by the end of the day tomorrow, it will be collected on Monday.
Residents whose waste was uncollected today are being advised take it back in overnight and put it back out again tomorrow.
Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Environment and Transportation, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of our staff is extremely important to us and we trust you will understand why these decisions have been taken.”
