Keep Recycling: 73,500 new clear bags to be delivered

PUBLISHED: 1 June 2018

From Thursday 31 May, 73,500 Colchester households who have kerbside collections will begin to receive their new supply of clear recycling bags.

Residents will receive delivery of a roll of clear bags for recycling paper, plastic and textiles between Thursday 31 May and Friday 29 June residents and are asked to note that the bags may not be delivered on their normal collection day.

Colchester's clear recycling bags, food waste containers and green boxes for cans and glass are available for free all year round from local collection points.

Councillor Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Environment and Transportationsaid: "Residents in Colchester have really embraced recycling since our rubbish and recycling changes in June 2017 and I would like to thank them all for enabling us to increase our recycling figures to 51%, which was 6% higher than the previous year-end figure.

"We now send less rubbish to landfill and I'm sure that we can do even better this year by making full use of the weekly food waste, and the fortnightly recycling collections."

Helpful information can be found on the Council's website, explaining:

  • What can and can't be recycled
  • What is food waste and what isn't
  • How to order free recycling and food waste containers
  • Collection dates for households
  • Where containers need to be left on collection day
  • Information about the garden waste collection service.

Residents who have not had a delivery by the 29 June can then report this online by Friday 6 July. All redeliveries will then take place by 13 July.

It's easy to keep up to date with bag deliveries, recycling collections and news year-round by registering for the Greener Living e-newsletter, following the Council on social media at @YourColchester on twitter and EnjoyColchester on facebook or visiting www.colchester.gov.uk/recycling.
