Expressions of Interest invitation for Abbey Field Community Centre (formally known as the Garrison Gym)

The purpose of this process is to identify Community based organisations or management groups, who wish to take on a lease of the Abbey Field Community Centre.

Colchester Borough Council recognises the significance of this historical and architecturally important property and would like to hear from organisations, businesses or groups who are interested in taking over management of this unique building providing a sustainable future and ongoing benefit of the community.

The building is currently let to the Mercury Theatre who are occupying the space whilst their main theatre (located close to Balkerne Gate) is undergoing extensive renovations. The building will become available once these works have been completed, which we anticipate to be sometime during Autumn 2020. Flexibility is required in case the building works are delayed.

More information on the criteria and expectations for taking on a lease of the Abbey Field Community Centre can be found HERE

The viewing day for the Abbey Field Community Centre is on Thursday 12 September 2019 10:00 – 15:00; there is no need to book in advance.

Organisations wishing to express an interest in taking on a lease of the Abbey Field Community Centre should submit their completed questionnaire, along with a business plan or supporting documentation HERE.

The Expressions of Interest process closes at Midday on 2 October 2019.
