What partly occupying a property means to your Business Rates

  • Partly occupied property relief - Section 44 (A) relief

Business Rates have to be paid whether a property is partly or wholly occupied.

Where a property is partly occupied for a short period of time we may be able to award relief based on the unoccupied part of the property.

We will not be able to award relief retrospectively.

Normally, we will send a member of the Business Rates Team to visit your property at the time of your application to see how you are using your property.

You must apply by email and the application must be made by the occupier or owner (if different) or the persons acting on their behalf, such as an agent or solicitor.

Please also send us a scale plan which clearly shows the areas that are occupied and the areas which are unoccupied.

Please send applications to our email - business.rates@colchester.gov.uk
