Services and resources are available to help businesses save money, improve energy efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions and to be resilient to the impacts of climate change.
Businesses are responsible for around a third of CO2 emissions in Colchester and a recent Colchester City Council project showed businesses can save 10% of energy just by taking small and simple measures in the workplace. The Government have made it clear that a low carbon economy is the future for the UK.

Businesses looking to go even further with their environmental credentials can achieve accreditations including ISO 14001 and the Carbon Trust certification
The Carbon Trust has green finance deal with Siemans to support provide UK businesses with green equipment finance.

Businesses may be able to benefit from a Government Incentive Scheme called the Feed in Tariff (FiTs).
The scheme has been developed to encourage small scale renewable electricity generation and offers a guaranteed payment for the energy produced. The FiT payments are fixed for 25 years and the levels of income vary depending on the technology used and the size of the installation.

LoCASE is a part EU - part local authority funded project offered to small and medium enterprise (SME) businesses in the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) region.
The aim is to give greater access and knowledge to low carbon energy saving streams to businesses in terms of both hardware and business advice. This will allow businesses to save money and increase business opportunities whilst at the same time reduce carbon emissions. In addition to this the project looks to grow and strengthen the low carbon business sector and drive innovation of low carbon technologies available.
