Hello Colchester is a new campaign set up as part of the Welcome back fund which builds on the Reopening High Street Safely Fund announced by Government in May 2020.
How does it work?
Using the engagement platform Hello Lamp Post, members of the community will be able to interact with places and objects around Colchester via their mobile phone. You can strike up conversations with familiar street objects such as benches, parking meters, bus stops, statues, information points and more using SMS, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.
Signs have been placed in and around Colchester, you can either text the number displayed on the sign or scan the QR code to receive information on the object.
As well as providing easy access to information on the local area, Hello Lamp Post also lets you feedback to decision makers by responding to the messages you receive.
Hello Colchester aims to help shape the future of the high street, based on the needs and interests of the community.
How long does the campaign run for?
The campaign will run from October 2021 to July 2022.
We have a 12-month license using objects around Colchester.
Sites around Colchester
Many of the objects will be around our heritage sites and will be used to tell historic stories of the town.
Generic street objects will be used in the remaining sites around the town centre to gather feedback, information and comments from people visiting the town. You can also find out information about events happening in the local area.
These generic locations will help us find out why people are visiting Colchester, what they like about the town and what they want to see more of.
We have identified objects in Culver Square and Lion Walk but will eventually launch objects near the Mercury Theatre and in Castle Park.
