Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Policy Consultation

View the Draft Taxi Policy 2025

The Council is consulting on its new draft Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Policy, and we would welcome your views.

The Council is responsible for the licensing and enforcement of the private hire and hackney carriage vehicle trades within its area to ensure public safety. The Policy outlines how the Council will carry out these functions.

The Licensing Committee has decided that the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all licensed vehicles should not be mandatory but encouraged as part of the Policy. Your views on this aspect are specifically sought and therefore the Council is consulting both on its decision that CCTV should not be mandatory but encouraged and on the draft Policy in general.
